Views Popular TV As Educational

Author Herbie J Pilato, best known for his books, Bewitched Forever and The Kung Fu Book Of Caine, has just released two new TV tomes: THE BIONIC BOOK; THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN AND THE BIONIC WOMAN RECONSTRUCTED and LIFE STORY THE BOOK OF LIFE GOES ON: TV'S FIRST AND BEST FAMILY SHOW OF CHALLENGE. An actor, producer, director, and singer/songwriter from Rochester, New York, Pilato employs his books with TV & Self-Esteem Seminars – a lecture series that he brings to schools, colleges and community and business organizations – one that helps to close the gap between popular culture and academia. Popular television programs, in particular, Pilato says, are an “untapped resource for education – beyond PBS and The Learning Channel.” According to Pilato, the Bionic shows and Life Goes On, along with Bewitched and Kung Fu, “teach us to look beyond our differences and to concentrate on what makes us the same.”

THE BIONIC BOOK; THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN AND THE BIONIC WOMAN RECONSTRUCTED is chock-full of commentary culled from Pilato's exclusive interviews with Bionic stars Lee Majors (who played half-superman/half-mechanical marvel Steve Austin), Lindsay Wagner (Jaime Sommers - Steve's female counter-part and one true love), series creator (and science fiction novel icon) Martin Caidin, executive producer Harve Bennett (who would later help to ignite the Star Trek feature film franchise), producer/director Kenneth Johnson (The Incredible Hulk and Alien Nation) and actor Richard Anderson, the latter of whom portrayed Oscar Goldman - Steve and Jaime's stoic but understanding superviser (and who has penned the book's foreword). Much more than a mere TV trivia guide, THE BIONIC BOOK explores in-depth the social, psychological, medical and scientific influence, appeal and message behind two of the most popular and heroic science fiction television programs of all time.

In the history of popular television, no other show has addressed the issues of adolescence, family values, diversity, prejudice, and physical and mental disabilities so directly and as fully as Life Goes On. Inside the pages of LIFE STORY THE BOOK OF LIFE GOES ON: TV'S FIRST AND BEST FAMILY SHOW OF CHALLENGE, the reader will find revealing commentary from Herbie J Pilato's extensive conversations with cast members such as the Golden-Globe-nominated Chris Burke (who played Corky Thacher, the high-school teen with Down syndrome, which Burke has in real life), the Emmy-winning Chad Lowe (the AIDS-stricken Jesse McKenna), and the Family-Television-Award-winning Kellie Martin (Becca Thacher, Corky’s sister and Jesse’s loyal young love. Also interviewed were pristine behind-the-scenes team players including director/producer Michael Nankin and creator/executive producer Michael Braverman (who has penned the book's foreword).
